What is an energy rating?

Generally, for a new dwelling it relates to measuring the efficient use of energy for heating and
cooling within the building fabric.
There are two approaches to demonstrate compliance, the typical energy rating approach using
house energy rating software like Firstrate 5 or prescriptive elemental approach.

Why do I require an energy rating?

As part of the NCC (National construction Code) it is a mandatory requirement that for most new
buildings including extensions to existing comply with energy efficiency provisions. The building
certifier will most of the time require this prior to issuing a building permit.

What is a part 3.12 deemed to satisfy assessment?

Typically, when your building certifier asked for this, it relates to the prescriptive elemental
approach. This is set out in the NCC and includes building fabric, glazing, sealing and services. Using
this method though will not provide a star rating.

What information am I required to provide?

A set of plans in PDF format, that include a site plan, floor plan, elevations, section and window
schedule or at least window sizes nominate on the plans.

How long does it take to get my report?

It takes approximately 5 working days to return a preliminary assessment which will detail all insulation and glazing requirements and any further information that may be required. ( If you need an urgent assessment, please reach out by phone or email and we are happy to discuss)

How much do 6-star reports cost?
